TrustRails gives Claude and ChatGPT the real UK price and stock for electronics, so they don't have to guess.
How AI assistants find products today
ChatGPT and Claude don't have shop data of their own. When you ask about a product, they search the web like you would, and often find review articles, shop category pages, old prices and non-UK shops.
What it already knows
AI models learn from a huge snapshot of the web, taken months or years before you ask. That's fine for “what's a mechanical keyboard?”, but prices and stock from back then are long out of date.
Searching the web
ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews can search the web for you, read the top results and sum them up. They often land on review articles, “best of” lists and shop category pages, which rarely show today's price for the exact model.
Opening a shop's page
Sometimes the AI opens a product page directly. But shop pages are built for people, not AI: prices can load late, some shops block AI visitors, and the AI still has to work out which number is the price and whether it's in stock.
Either way, the AI is piecing an answer together from pages it happened to find. That's why you get old prices, the wrong model, or “check the retailer's website”.

The same product from different shops is matched up by its barcode, so your AI knows it's comparing like with like.

Only new products are included, so no refurbished or used items.
What's an MCP server?
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is a standard way for AI assistants like Claude and ChatGPT to plug into live data, a bit like a plug socket for AI.
TrustRails is an MCP server. When you ask your AI about electronics, it can look up TrustRails' data instead of guessing from the web. You don't need to know any of this to use it, and adding it takes about a minute.
How is that different from a web search?
A web search hands the AI pages to read. An MCP server answers the question directly. Your AI asks something like “noise-cancelling headphones under £100, in stock” and gets back real products with the price, stock and a link to buy, as clean data it doesn't have to guess from.
